Erie Shores, OH Chapter

HISTORY OF
JACK AND JILL OF AMERICA, INC.
Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a national membership organization of mothers with children ages 2-19, dedicated to the mission of nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty. The organization was founded in Philadelphia in 1938 as a way to provide access to opportunities that African-American children might not otherwise have had.
Today, Jack and Jill boasts over 230 chapters representing over 40,000 families nationwide. Each chapter plans annual programming activities guided under a national theme. Our current Mid-Western Region Theme, "Living the Jack and Jill Experience: Mission-Minded, Dream Driven," supports and evokes the sentiments of our founder, Marion Stubbs Thomas “to bestow upon our children all the opportunities possible for a normal and graceful approach to a beautiful adulthood.”
The Erie Shores, Ohio chapter seeks to create programming to carry out our national organization's mission of being a premier African-American organization dedicated to shaping tomorrow's leaders. We seek to develop partnerships in the greater Cleveland and Akron areas that will help our children focus on the issues and needs in the community and show them how they can have a positive impact on the world in which they live.
